The term “cardiac” refers to “relating to or situated near the heart”. The heart is one of the significant organs in the human body. It pumps the blood all over the body through the circulatory system. Also, the heart is involved in the transport of nutrients, hormones as well as oxygen and in the elimination of metabolic wastes.

The cardiac output (CO) can be defined as the volume of blood that is pumped by the heart in each ventricle per unit time or per minute. The normal range of cardiac output is 5 to 6 litres per minute. The cardiac output can increase during stress or exercise.
