Step 1

The act of copying a DNA sequence by the help of RNA polymerase to form an RNA strand is termed as transcription. It is the first step for genetic expression and occurs inside the nucleus of the cell.

The process by which mRNA is translated to the amino acid sequence is termed as translation. It occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell, followed by the transcription that occurs inside the nucleus. mRNA chain is decoded in the ribosome to form the peptide sequence. Moreover, mRNA contains codons, a sequence of three nucleotides, that encode a particular amino acid.

Step 2

Post-transcriptional modification occurs right after the completion of the transcription process. Its main purpose is to make mRNA ready for translating into protein structure. It also controls mRNA availability for the ribosomes. It includes polyadenylation, capping, and splicing. In polyadenylation, a poly (A) tail is attached to the 3’ end of mRNA. The purpose of this tail is to protect mRNA from being degraded, end transcription, and transport mRNA out of the nucleus. Capping occurs at the 5’ end of mRNA and prevents its degradation.
