Consider a composite wall made up of three separate walls and convective boundary conditions on each side, like so:


a) Write the equation for total thermal resistance of the wall.


b) If ? = 3m x 2m, L1, L2, and L3 = 1m, 0.5m, and 2m respectively, k1, k2, k3 = 400, 4, and 80 W/mk respectively, T∞1, T∞2 = 450 and 25 ̊C respectively, and h1, h2 = 40 and 200 W/mk respectively, what is the total thermal resistance?


c) Given your answer to a and b, what is the junction temperature between the 1st and 2nd wall?

d) What is the junction temperature between the 2nd and 3rd wall?


e) What is the surface temperature of the end of the 3rd wall?
