This formula is used for the determination of maximum allowable load by using bridge formula which can be legally be applied on the bridge by any group of successive axles on a vehicle or mixture of vehicle. It is otherwise known as federal bridge formula.

It is used by truck drivers and Department of Transportation (DOT) officials.
