Emergent property – the property or characteristics of a material is not the sum of the properties of its subunits. If we consider an organ in human body for instance heart, it has the ability to pump blood. However the individual cells of heart does not have the capacity to do so.  But collectively they perform pumping action.  Thus, on knowing the characteristic of an individual cell we cannot conclude that we are aware of the complete characteristics of the organism.
