The chemical reactions in which the rate of reaction is straightly proportional to the concentration of one of the reactant is known as first-order reactions. The general form of first-order reactions are written as,

For a first order reaction, we can give the differential rate equation as,

Rate=-At=kA

The integrated rate law could be written as,

lnA=lnA0-kt

Second inverse or s-1 is the unit of first-order reactions.

Step 2

The differential rate law (or) the integrated law could be used to determine if the specific reaction is first order or not.

We can determine if the reaction is first order (or) not with the help of graph.

Incase if the plot of concentration of reactant against the time does not give a straight line whereas the plot of natural log of concentration of reactant against the time is straight line, the reaction is determined as first order reaction.
