Identify neuron structures and describe their functions
The nervous system is involved in the and controlling of various activities in the animals. There are two divisions of the nervous system. The central nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord, the peripheral nervous system consists of nerve fibres which carry information between the central system and other body parts. The peripheral nervous system is in turn divided into afferent and efferent nervous systems.
Nerve cells and the neuroglia make up the nervous tissue. Neurons or nerve cells consist of a cell body, axon and dendrites. On receiving a stimulus the neurons convert it into electrical signals which are known as nerve impulses or action potential. In this way neurons conduct nerve impulses. Neuroglia provides support to the nervous tissue.
