If you squeeze an air filled balloon and no heat escapes, what happens to the internal energy of gas in the balloon?

Given: The balloon is air-filled and squeezed and no heat escapes. This question can be explained from the first law of thermodynamics. This states that when heat is added to a system, part of this heat is used in increasing the internal energy of the system and a part is used to do a work by the system. Mathematically, dQ = dU + PdV , dQ is the amount of heat added, dU is the increase in internal energy and PdV is the work done. When there is no heat, dQ = 0. When dQ=0, dU= -PdV. But when the balloon is squeezed, its volume decreases. So, dV will be a negative quantity. Thus, dU will be a positive quantity. This signifies that the internal energy of the gas in the balloon will increase. Conclusion: The internal energy of the gas in the balloon will increase.
