In the tripple sugar fermentation test, why is the triple sugar iron agar called a multi-test system?

list the concentrations of sugars in the media and the possible results due to fermentation

Expert Answer

Step 1

The process of chemical breakdown of complex substances into simple ones in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic conditions) by bacteria, yeasts, or other microbes involving giving off of heat is known as fermentation.

Step 2

Triple sugar iron fermentation test (TSI slant) is a microbiological test, which is roughly named for its ability to test a particular micro organism’s ability to ferment sugars, thereby producing hydrogen sulfide. It is done in a test tube containing agar, and a pH sensitive dye (phenol red).

The triple sugar iron agar involved in TSI slant is ca...
