James drove to work in such heavy traffic that it took him 2 hours to get in to work. On

his way home, traffic was much lighter and he was able to drive 30 mph faster. This let

him get home in just ½ an hour. How fast was James driving on his way to work?

Step 1

Let James was driving at x mph while going to work.

It took him 2 hours to go to work.

So, distance= time x speed= 2x miles

Step 2

While coming back he was driving 30 mph faster. So his speed was (x+30) mph.
