DNA serves as a genetic material and carries genetic information from one generation to another. DNA replication is the first step in the central dogma of biology followed by transcription and translation. In replication, two identical copies of DNA sequences produced from a single DNA sequence. The synthesis of a new RNA sequence from a specific segment of DNA is known as transcription. In translation, the protein is synthesized from the mRNA sequence. In bacteria, the process of transcription and translation is coupled to save energy. Whereas, in eukaryotes, the transcription and translation occur separately, not coupled. In eukaryotic organisms, transcription occurs in the nucleus and translation occurs in the cytoplasm.

The coupled transcription and translation can only take place when all transcription and translation factors are present in one location.
