Mr. Lum overheard one of his students saying “Lum’s exams are tough, it makes no difference whether you take them after a good night’s rest, at the end of a tiring day, or after straight 36 hours duty in the hospital without sleep! You get the same grade.” Mr. Lum decided to conduct an experiment to see whether the student’s statement had any validity. He initially recruited a random sample of 36 student volunteers and divided the 36 students into three groups of 12. Each group was administered a typical 2-hour Lum exam. One group was fresh and alert when they took the exam; another group took the exam at the end of a long day; and the third group took the test in a groggy state. During the testing, one student in the tired second group could not complete the exam, and two students in the groggy group fell asleep. The scores on the exam and a computer printout of the solution are presented as follows:
