Q) What are conventional energy resources based on disadvantages and effects??

Expert Solution
Step 1

Source of energy are classified into two categories:

  1. Conventional sources of energy
  2. Non- conventional sources of energy

The sources of energy which are present in finite amount and may get depleted with time and usage are categorized into conventional sources of energy. They have taken millions of years to reform and hence cannot be replenished in our life span. Once exhausted , they need to be replaced by other sources of energy.

Some examples of conventional sources of energy are coal, petrol, diesel etc.

Following are the disadvantages of conventional sources of energy:

  1. Pollution: Burning of fuel in thermal power plants lead to emission of CO2, NO2 and other greenhouse gases which contribute to global warming. SO2 travels on air currents and causes acid rain. Mercury bio-accumulates and is magnified in the ecosystem and falls in the form of particulate dust and precipitation elsewhere.
  2. Limited Supply: Since the conventional sources of energy are limited in nature, their supply is limited and these might get exhausted after a span of time. If we consider the current rat of consumption of natural and petroleum gas, they might get depleted at the end of 21st
  3. Reliability: If any source of energy is not present in our country , then we have to rely on other countries for our needs which makes us vulnerable.
