Antagonist is a muscle with the opposite action of the prime mover. There are two important functions done by antagonist muscle: to maintain body and limp position and to control the rapid movement. Prime mover muscle is also termed as the agonist. Agonist and antagonist muscles remain in pair. Such pairs are termed as antagonistic pairs. One muscle contracts and the other muscle relax.

Prime over muscles are those muscles which are the main cause of movement. Extension in the forearm means that the angle at the bone joint increases. In extension of the forearm the prime mover is the triceps. So antagonist to it is the bicep muscles. The work of bicep muscles is to reduce the angle at the bone joint in the arm.
