related rates - find dx/dt where x^{2 }+xy - y^{2 }= 20. dy/dt = 5 and x = 4

Diferentiate both sides with resepct to t. While differentiating recall the:

- Chain rule of differentiation and
- famous rule of differentiation: d(x
^{n}) / dx = nx^{n-1}

Step 2

On differentiation,

2x + xdy/dt + ydx/dt - 2ydy/dt = 0

Step 3

Given, dy/dt = 5 and x = 4 we have to find dx/dt.

From the original equation, x2 +xy - y2 = 20; when x = 4 then
