# Short Assignment #11-My Two CentsStarted: Apr 1 at 11:20amQuiz InstructionsThis assignment is related to your Chapter 3 (Salkind) material. It is not timed but assignment must be submitted by the specified due. Short Assignments that are not submitted will receive agrade of "O". This short assignment is worth 10 pointsLast semester,an experiment was done in class where 40 students were asked to take out all of the coins they had on them. Pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters (no bills-just coins). The students added it up, and then gave their total (in \$).Students were asked to provide their gender. Below is the data from that class session.l want YOUto run the appropriate test on the data using student gender as the independent variable and amount of change as the dependent variable. Do you think one gender hadmore in money in coins than the other?Your job is to determine if males have a significantly different total amount in coins than females. As you worked on this problem, be mindful of the eight steps we coveredin Chapter 10 (Salkind). Select the alternative hypothesis

Ha: Males and females will differ in the amount of money they have on them

Ha: Males and females will not differ in the amount of money they have on them

Step 1

Hypothesis:

Hypothesis is an assumption about the parameter of the population which will be made on the limited evidence as the start value to proceed for further investigation, and the assumption may or may not be true.

In testing the hypothesis is of two types. The two types are:

• Null hypothesis (H0)
• Alternative hypothesis (H1)

Null and alternative hypothesis:

Null hypothesis:

Null hypothesis is a statement which is tested for statistical significance in the test. The decision criterion indicates whether the null hypothesis will be rejected or not in the favour of alternate hypothesis. In other words it can be said that, the null hypothesis is a statement which indicates the relationship between statistical measurements, distributions or categories. More often, null hypothesis states no significance relationship between variables or populations. But, null does not indicate “0” all the time.

Alternate hypothesis:

Alternate hypothesis is contradictory statement of the null hypothesis. The alternate hypothesis represents whether the hypothesis test is one tailed or two tailed.

• If the alternate hypothesis indicates “not equal to” symbol then the hypothesis test is said to be two tailed.
• If the alternate indicates “less than” symbol then the hypothesis test is said to be left tailed.
• If the alternate hypothesis indicates “greater than” symbol then the hypothesis test is said to be right tailed.
Step 2

State the appropriate hypothesis:

The data represents the total amount in coins for 40 students and their respective gender.

Here, the objective is to test whether or not males have significantly different total amount in coins than females.

The hypotheses are given below:

Null hypothesis:

H0 ...
