Sphingophospholipid and Glycerophospholipid are membrane lipids. Sphingomyelins of the sphingophospholipids are present in all cell membranes. Sphingomyelins are important for myelin sheath which is a protective and insulating coating around the nerves.

Thus, all the three compounds, glycerophospholipid, sphingophospholipid and sphingoglycolipids correspond to the characterization membrane lipid.
