Question

the role of high density lipoprotein in chronic heart disease and familial hypercholesteremia

Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction

Plasma high-density lipoproteins (HDLs), consist of the plasma lipoprotein particles with the density range of 1.063–1.210 g/mL. They are small lipid-protein complexes that are spherical in shape.

HDL particles have an outer layer with phospholipid, free cholesterol, and various apolipoproteins (Apo). Thus, they cover a hydrophobic core with triglycerides and cholesterol esters.

Apo I is made majorly in the liver and accounts for HDL's antiatherogenic effects. HDL protein sometimes contain bothe ApoI and ApoII.
