Microorganisms are living organisms that are too small to be seen with the unaided eye, however, visible under a microscope. The study of microorganism is referred to as microbiology. Bacteria, fungi, archaea, protists, and viruses are microorganisms that are considered as the earliest known life forms. On earth, microbes present almost everywhere, such as in liquid water, including ocean floor and hot springs, and deep inside rocks. Moreover, in the ecosystem, microorganisms are important to recycle the nutrients, as they act as decomposers.

In general, the term microbial cells are used to define many microscopic life forms, with different characteristics and sizes: bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoa, and viruses.
