What does homeostasis mean
Expert Solution
Step 1
The concept of the regulation of the internal body environment was described by French physiologist Claude Bernard in 1849, and the word ‘homeostasis’ was coined by Walter Bradford Cannon in 1926. In 1932, Joseph Barcroft, a British physiologist, was the first to say that higher brain function required the most stable internal environment. Thus according to Barcroft homeostasis was not only controlled by the brain but homeostasis also maintained the functions of the brain.
The metabolic processes of all organisms take place in very specific physical and chemical environments. The physical and chemical conditions vary with each organism, and vary from intercellular to intracellular processes.
