What does oxidation and reduction mean, and how does it relate to respiration?

Expert Answer

Step 1

Respiration is a multi-step reaction involves glycolysis and  Krebs cycle. The process of respiration begins with the breaking of glucose molecules known as glycolysis. Krebs cycle is the second stage of respiration, it is an aerobic process (need oxygen).

Step 2

Each step in the respiration breaks glucose molecules into smaller fragments. The 6-carbon glucose is converted to a 3-carbon pyruvate molecule. An intermediate step between glycolysis and the Krebs cycle converts pyruvate into acetic acid and carbon dioxide. Finally, the Krebs cycle that breaks acetic acid into carbon dioxide molecules (2 carbon).

In cellular respiration, ele...
