Diabetes mellitus is commonly known as diabetes. It is a metabolic disease and is the most widespread disease in the world. Diabetes brings with itself a bunch of other diseases like coronary heart diseases, diseases of the eye and neural diseases.

Diabetes mellitus is a carbohydrate metabolism disorder in which the body in unable to produce insulin due to which the blood glucose level in the body rises sharply. Insulin is a hormone that is responsible for the regulation of blood glucose level. It is secreted by the β-cells of the Islets of Langerhans cells of the pancreas. In the absence of insulin, the blood glucose level in the body remains high leading to a condition called hyperglycemia.

Because of the high concentration of glucose, frequent urination takes place. Since, there is frequent urination, the water level also disbalances, and therefore, patient feels more thirsty.
