Cardinality is defined as an important concept in designing the database. In this one row of a relation show a relationship with another row of a relation. In this relation means table. It shows the maximum relationship between the relations.

 

There are four types of cardinality:-

 

(i)One-to-one relation:-Let as assuming the relation of man and other relation of a female. Only one man married to one female and one female married to one male. This example shows the one-to-one relationship between these two relations.

(ii)Many-to-one relation:-Let as assuming the relation of student and other relation of a Department. Many students enrolled in one department and one department has many students enrolled in it. This example shows the many-to-one relationship between these two relations.

(iii)Many-to-many relation:-Let as assuming the relation of student and other relation of a Course. A student enrolled in more than one course and one course has taken by more than one student. This example shows the many-to-one relationship between these two relations.
