What is the purpose of the Schrodinger equation? What is it used for?

In quantum systems, a wave function represents the probability amplitude of a quantum system to be found in a particular state. While the probability can be calculated by square of the wave function.

Schrodinger equation is a partial differential equation which depicts how a quantum system (represented by its wave function) evolves with time and in space. It is analogous to Newton’s second law which is used to predict the future evolution of a classical dynamical system.

The expression for time independent Schrodinger equation in one dimension is given as,
