What is the relationship between the proximity of two genes and their inheritance?

The proximity of the two genes has great importance in inheritance of the genes.  This proximity is termed as linkage between two genes. Genetic linkage is the capability of two genes present on the same chromosomes to be inherited simultaneously. These genes are said to be linked genes. There are few chances of linked genes to separate onto different chromatids during the event of chromosomal crossover.
