The most important ore of copper found on the earth is the copper-pyrite ore whose chemical formula is CuFeS2. The roasting of this pyrite ore is done in the three steps as shown below.
Step 2
During this metallurgical process, iron oxide also forms along with copper oxide. This iron oxide is removed by adding silica. Silica reacts with iron oxide to form FeSiO3 by which all iron oxide present in the system get removed in the form of slag and only copper is obtained as a final product.
