The antimicrobial drugs are used to treat bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases or infections.

Chloramphenicol is a broad spectrum antibiotic derived from Streptomyces venezuelae and acts by interfering with the protein synthesis of the bacteria and is bacteriostatic. Chloramphenicol is effective against Salmonella typhi, Escherichia coli, Nisseria species, Heamophilus influenza. This is used in treatment of conjunctivitis, meningitis, typhoid fever, cholera and other plague.

Oxazolidones comprises of the member Linezolid class and is effective against the gram positive bacteria which are resistant towards other antibiotics such as vancomycin-resistant enterococci, Streptococci and methicilin resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
