Expert Answer

Step 1

Hemoglobin is a protein found in red blood cells of vertebrates that binds and carry oxygen molecules to different body parts. It is made up of four subunits and can carry up to four oxygen moieties. Hemoglobin gets oxygenated when it binds with oxygen and turns red. Hemoglobin bound with oxygen is known as oxyhemoglobin. When oxygen is released from the hemoglobin, it gets reduced and turns purplish blue. Approximately, 98.5 percent of oxygen is transported in bound form while rest 1.5 percent is transported in dissolved form in blood.

Step 2

Explanation of each option:

Option 1: Hemoglobin is a protein present in erythrocytes (red blood cells) of blood tissue. It is made up of four subunit and has heme group in each subunit. This hem group binds to oxygen and carries it to different body tissues via blood stream.

Option 2: Hemoglobin is composed of four subunits, namely, two beta and two alpha subunits. Each of these subunits has a heme group located in the center of each of them.

Option 3: Oxygen atom binds to heme group which is present at the center of each ...
