Question

Why green algae is called ancestors of land plants?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Green algae are photosynthetic, aquatic organisms. These can be unicellular or multicellular and can reproduce sexually or asexually. The presence of chlorophyll pigment a and b renders them with the green color. Green algae are classified into charophytes (found in freshwater) and chlorophytes (found in marine water).

Embryophytes or land plants include all organisms under the kingdom plantae and are divided into vascular and nonvascular plants. Vascular plants are further divided into the ones that produce seeds and the ones who do not.
