Why is the enthalpy of neutralization for all strong acid-strong base reactions the same within experimental error? Is this also the case for all weak acid-weak base reactions?

check_circleExpert Solution
Step 1

The standard enthalpy change of neutralisation is the enthalpy change when solutions of an acid and base react together under standard conditions to produce 1 mole of water.

Step 2

Strong acids and bases dissociate completely and the neutralization reactions of all strong acids and bases give the same net ionic equation as :

H+ + OH- → H...
