Ondansetron is an anti-emetic medication prescribed for nausea and vomiting. It belongs to a class of medications called 5-HT3 antagonists that inhibit the serotonin receptor, 5-HT3 receptor. It is taken by patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer, and people with gastroenteritis or for morning sickness in pregnancy. The medication is prescribed orally as tablets/pills or as an intravenous injection. Some of the side-effects associated with ondansetron are constipation, dizziness, diarrhoea and prolonged QT-interval that lead to cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac arrest.
