Chapter 0, Problem 12SI

Explanation of Solution

To choose the era of history to live with the help of Time machine:

I would like to live in that period of history in which there is no deforestation, no pollution and war.

I would cherish to live in an era where people connect together by spending time together rather than on social platforms, and in an era where there is no overexploitation of natural resources.

I would like to live where there is less population, love between humans and the environment is conducive for health.

The technologies that I would like to take back from modern times:

  • Medical treatment: I would like to take modern medical technologies, the medicines and surgical equipments and labs that help humans to save lives.
  • Smartphones: I would like to use smartphones for location tracking and for better communication.
  • Computers and internet: I would like to have information shared across globally within a click. Therefore, I would like to take computer technologies.

Independent choice of technologies:

No”, the choice of one technology cannot be taken without taking others because the growth of technology is always related to each other. One technology supports the other.

The technology used in smartphones is supported by growth of semiconductor industry, batteries and display screens.

The medical technology thrives on industries to make equipment, to design surgical equipment and to set up factories to make medicines.

Therefore, one technology can’t be taken without taking the others.

There is a very thin line of separation between the technologies since each technology leads to development of other technology.

“Yes”, it is somewhat consistent to accept modern treatment while protesting against global warming. The deforestation can be stopped; the over-exploitation of natural resources can be regulated. New and modern equipment can be designed in such a way that they are energy efficient and thrive on green technologies.
