Textbook Question
Chapter 1, Problem 1.10P
For each of the followign classes of materials, give two specific examples that are a regular part of your life:
- metals;
- ceramics;
- polymers; and
- semiconductors.
Specify the object that each material is found in and explain why the matenal is used in each specific application. Hint: One example answer for part (a) would be that aluminum is a metal used in the base of some pots and pans for even heat distribution. it is also a lightweight metal that makes it useful in kitchen cookware. Note that in this partial answer to part (a),a specific metal is described for a specific application.

B) Ceramic
C) Polymer
D) composite material
Explain how the properties and structure of different given engineering materials affect their behaviour in given engineering applications:
1) Cutlery set usually made from 18/8 austenitic stainless steel alloys. Explain the reasons behind selecting this alloy for this type of applications.
Engineering materials plays an important role in manufacturing industry for the development of products for high performance applications. Describe the main classifications of engineering materials and give details of physical and mechanical properties of three materials for each category.
