Concept explainers
To determine: The apparent contradiction of the fact that more Benzedrine is required than Dexedrine to yield the same physiological response.
Introduction:
A carbon which has all the four different atoms or group of atoms has a tetrahedral geometry and such carbon molecule is referred as the chiral carbon. The two different forms in which a single chiral center can exist is referred as enantiomers.
The narcolepsy and other related disorders are treated by amphetamine enantiomer (Dextroamphetamine). This medication is used because it is a potent central nervous system stimulant. The medications like Benzedrine and Dexedrine are similar in structure, but their physiological effects are different.
