To explain: Why evolution is considered one of the core themes of biology.
Concept introduction: Evolution is defined as the changes in heritable characteristics of all organisms in a population from one generation to the next. It depends upon the natural selection, mutation, and genetic drift. It is mainly the “changes in gene frequency in a population”.
Explanation of Solution
Evolution explains the most basic things related to life. It gives a logical explanation that all the living organisms have been derived from a single ancestral species. Organisms that are better fitted with their environment for survival are selected by the process of natural selection, and mutation creates new alleles. In genetic drift, random variation in the allele frequency occurs due to the large changes in a population within a short duration of time. Evolution provides the evidence for the distribution of DNA, shows the anatomical similarities and differences, different body symmetry, and geographical distribution of organisms within a different environment. Hence, it is considered to be one of the core themes of biology.
