Martinus Beijerinck (1851 - 1931) and Dmitri lvanovsky (1864 - 1920) revealed that a pathogen is responsible for the disease in tobacco plants. Such pathogen is also capable of passing over filters having small pores that cannot permit even the bacteria to pass through. Beijerinck identified that the pathogen was a virus and not a bacteria.
