The particle model is a simplified way to describe the motion of an object where motion does not depends on object's size and shape. The main purpose of particle model to allow one to see the connections that are very important but that are obscured or lost by examining all the parts of an extended, real object.
Explanation of Solution
The particle model is a simplified way to describe the motion of an object where motion does not depends on object's size and shape. In this model, one can treat the object as if all of its mass were concentrated into a single point. This model is reasonable when the distance traveled is much greater than the size of the object.
The importance of the particle model:
- 1) It allows one to see the connections that are very important but that are obscured or lost by examining all the parts of an extended, real object.
- 2) It makes the calculations much easier.
