Answer to Problem 1RD

The strengths of the geocentric model of the universe is that it gives accurate orbital distance and explains gravitational force. The weakness of the geocentric model of the universe is that it is not able to describe the variation in the brightness of the

Explanation of Solution

Geocentric model is the model in which the Earth is considered to be stationary and all other heavenly bodies like the Sun, the Moon and other planets are revolving around it.

The strength of this model was that it gave the accurate orbital distance for the Sun and the Moon. Also it explained the gravitational force of attraction very well.

But on the other hand, it was not able to describe the variation in the brightness of different planets and the retrograde motion of the planets like the Jupiter and the Saturn. A new and well-defined model was required to explain these weaknesses of geocentric model of the universe.
