Chapter 1, Problem 35P

The mass flow rate of water in a tube is measured using a beaker to catch water during a timed interval. The nominal mass flow rate is l00 g/s. Assume that mass is measured using a balance with a least count of 1 g and a maximum capacity of 1 kg, and that the timer has a least count of 0.1 s. Estimate the time intervals and uncertainties in measured mass flow rate that would result from using 100, 500, and 1000 mL beakers. Would there be any advantage in using the largest beaker? Assume the tare mass of the empty 1000 mL beaker is 500 g.

please answer A pump impeller rotating at 1400 rpm has an outside radius of 21 cm, the vane outlet angle β2 is 158° and the radial velocity at the outlet Cr2 is 4 m/s. Assuming radial flow at inlet, draw the theoretical outlet velocity diagram and calculate the various velocities and angles.( A)What is the theoretical head Ho, in meters, assuming that the circulatory flow coefficient η∞ = 1.,(B)In the preceding example; assume a deviation of 10° applied to β2 due to circulation after the modern theory. The flow is 30 lit/s. After drawing/illustrating the velocity diagram, find the theoretical head Ho, in meters, assuming radial flow at inlet, neglecting the deviation in inlet velocity diagram. (c)Assuming that the mechanical efficiency ηmech = 0.95, the hydraulic (or manometric) efficiency ηman = 0.8, find the required break horsepower to drive the pump.
Figure Q2a shows a Venturi meter with minimum diameter of 19 mm and maximum diameter 31 mm. This Venturi meter was used to measure flowrate of fluid M. During the measurement, it was found that the pressure detected at location (1) is 735 kPa, while the the pressure detected at location (2) is 550 kPa. Determine the volumetric flow rate and mass flow rate of fluid M through the Venturi meter. Given density of fluid M is 928 kg/m3.
You are the mechanical engineer supervising the layout of a piping system. In a certain portion of the pipe, the specifications are as follows: length of pipe is 10m, inside diameter of 30cm, outside diameter of 30.5cm, maximum allowable speed of 15m/s and a coefficient of 0.003456. If the uncertainties are 0.02mm for length, 0.8mm for the diameters and 0.1mm/s for the velocity, what loss of head will be imminent in this pipe?
