The meaning for the terms is stated below:


The Polymer is the material and backbone of the daily use word which is called as Plastics. Polymer is used to prepare the plastics which consist of carbon atoms in the form of links. The micro structure of the plastics is in the form of chain which is called as polymers. It is made of small molecules that are number of identical monomers.

Polymers are the chemical compounds which consist of larger chain like molecular structures. Polymers are used to obtain the following characteristics in the products. They are,

  • High rigidity,
  • Enhanced strength.
  • Flexibility.
  • Longer life span.

The polymerization process is the process in which monomers are used to make the polymer. Followings are the examples for polymers:

  1. 1. Polyester,
  2. 2. Polyethylene,
  3. 3. Polyacrylic, and
  4. 4. Polyurethane.


Plastic is the synthetic solid material which is used widely for the purpose of industrial product and artefacts manufacturing. Plastics are made by using the synthetic polymer which has an ability of molding the products into various shapes. Such ability allows the plastic material to cast and press during the manufacturing process to form into a various shapes such as plates, tubes, films, bottles, boxes etc.

Plastics are good insulators and provide good firm and durability. Plastics are classified as two different types:

  1. 1. Thermoplastics,
  2. 2. Thermosets.


A Thermoplastic is the type which can be molded to one particular shape and again remolded to other shape while heating it under certain temperature. It is made up of polymers which are loosely plugged each other...
