The main energy source during any physical activity is glucose. But the usage of this energy source depends on two things. These are- time of the action and intensity with which the action is done. During the first 20-30 minutes of any physical labor, cells use glucose as the source of energy, but as the time or intensity increases, the cells start to use fats for energy. This is how metabolism works during physical activity.
