# In Exercises 5 to 8, draw the graph of each equation by using the method of Example 3. 3 x - 2 y = 12

To determine

Draw the graph of the equation 3x-2y=12.

Explanation

The general form of a line is y=mx+b

m is the slope of a line

b is y intercept of a line

Solving for y,

Subtract 3x from each side of the equation 3x-2y=12

3x-2y-3x=12-3x

3x and -3x on left hand side get cancelled.

Then,

-2y=12-3x

Rewrite the equation -2y=12-3x as

-2y=-3x+12

Now, divide -2y=-3x+12 by -2

So,

-2y-2=-3x-2+12-2

Here,

-2y-2=y

12-2=-6

Then,

y=32x 6

Compare the equation y=32x-6 with y=mx+b

Now,

m=3
