Explanation of Solution

File:

A group of interrelated data is called as file. The two main types of files are text file and binary file.

  • Text file:
    • A text file simply contains the information or data which is in human readable format.
    • It can be stored with the extension “.txt”.
  • Binary file:
    • A binary file contains the data in bits format. Bits can be represented in the form of 0’s and 1’s.
    • It can be stored with the extension “.bin”.
  • Even though the text file contains plain text, the computer stores the text file information as binary data.
  • Because the computer understands only the machine-level language (0’s and 1’s). The information in the text file is converted into machine-level language in the form of 0’s and 1’s.
  • Then, these bits can be grouped into 8 or 16 bits from the text file and then interpreted as characters.
