Chapter 11, Problem 3SQ, In the diagrams of the nucleus shown below, fill in the blanks with the name of each interval.

Summary Introduction

Concept Introduction: A cell cycle is the series of stages of a cell passes that throughout its lifetime. Eukaryotic cell division reproduction takes place by mitotic division and then by cytokinesis. Interphase is the interval of the cell cycle between the cell division.

Explanation of Solution

Pictorial representation: Fig.1 represents the various stages of mitosis.

Fig.1: Various stages of mitosis

Interphase

Interphase is the interval during a eukaryotic cell cycle during which the cell grows and doubles the number of its cytoplasm components. For the preparation of cell division, DNA replication also takes place in this stage. As it is in the resting stage, the chromosomes are not condensed and they are invisible in the cell.

Prophase

It is the initial stage in the mitotic division, where the duplicated chromosome will become visible as they condense. One between the two centrosomes has moved to the opposite side of the cell when the nuclear envelope breaks up completely. At the centromere spindle, microtubules will assemble and bind to the chromosomes attaching the sister chromatids to opposite centrosomes...
