Interpretation: The change happens when a can having 10ml of water is boiled and then cooled by placing over a pan of cold water.

Concept Introduction:

Vapor pressure is nothing but the pressure of a vapor in contact with its liquid or solid form.

When a liquid and vapor are in equilibrium the pressure exerted by the vapor is called the equilibrium vapor pressure.

Explanation of Solution

Given that an empty can is filled with 10ml of water and heated to boiling. Then it is placed inverted over a pan of cold water such that the opening in the can is below the water level in the pan.

Initially the vapor pressure of water will be atmospheric pressure which is 760mm
