In an atom there are shells or orbits. Each shell or orbit contains more sub shell. Then each sub shell contains orbitals.

Shell is a two dimensional concept but orbitals is a three dimensional concept.

Explanation

The energy level is the biggest zone, sub level is the moderate zone and orbital is the smallest zone.

For example:

4th shell contains 4 types of sub shell namely 4s,  4p,  4d and 4f.

Now 4s sub shell has only one orbital
