Explanation of Solution

Write the expression to calculate lattice constant of cesium bromide structure (a).

 a=23(rCs++RBr)                                                                                                  ...... (I)

Here, ionic radius of Cs+ ion is rCs+ and ionic radius of Br ion is RBr.

Write the expression to calculate mass of unit cell of cesium bromide (m).

 m=nCs+MCs++nBrMBrNA                                                                                        ...... (II)

Here, number of atoms and molar mass of Cs+ ion are nCs+ and MCs+, number of atoms and molar mass of Br ion are nBr and MBr and Avogadro's number is NA.

Write the expression to calculate density of cesium bromide in grams per cubic centimeter (ρ).

Here, volume of unit cell is V.

Conclusion:

Substitute 0.165nm for rCs+ and 0.196nm for RBr in Equation (I).

 a=23(0.165nm+0.196nm)=0.417nm=4.17×108cm

Substitute 1 for nCs+, 132.9g/mol for MCs+, 1 for nBr, 79.90g/mol for MBr and 6.023×1023ions/mol for NA in Equation (II).

 m=(1)(132.9g/mol)+(1)(79.9g/mol)6.023×1023ions/mol=3.53×1022g

Substitute 3.53×1022g for m and 4.17×108cm for a in Equation (III).

 ρ=3.53×1022g(4.17×108cm)3=4.87g/cm3
