Robert has a problem dealing with Lucas; he is not able to understand the true intention of Lucas. Lucas seems very agreeable and supportive but Lucas never respect deadlines and always has a very good excuse for it. On top of it Lucas has a habit of constantly complaining about Robert behind his back. Lucas has passive − aggressive behavior.

Given information:

Troubled relationship between Robert and Lucas and Lucas's passive − aggressive behavior

As we know Lucas's behavior is a passive − aggressive behavior, people who suffers from this behavior issue roots to their child hood experience. They have strict parents with whom they cannot discuss directly. So in an organization where there is hierarchy they feel the same way. Robert should not direct Lucas directly and make him realize that he can speak to him directly for all his problems. If for any reason Lucas is not able to complete an assignment in time rather than discussing with a third party, it's better to discuss with Robert so that Robert can advise him. Also while discussing with Lucas; Robert should not take anything personal what Lucas says.

Conclusion

People suffering from passive − aggressive behavior should be confronted directly but in a very polite and generous way.
