Concept explainers
The process of pair production and basic transformation taking place in these production reactions.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Pair production is a process of creation of a subatomic particle and its antiparticle during interaction. In pair production, radiant energy is directly converted into matter and high-energy gamma rays are absorbed.
Pair production is a process of formation of a subatomic particle and its antiparticle from boson. For examples: pair of an electron and a positron, a muon and an anti-muon participate in pair production. A photon creates an electron-positron pair close to a nucleus. For pair production to occur, a photon should have energy at least equivalent to the mass of the two electrons.
Energy and momentum are conserved during pair production. Any two of: charge, lepton number, strangeness or baryon number are also conserved.
Conclusion:
Thus, pair production is the process of creation of a subatomic particle and its antiparticle during interaction. Energy and momentum are conserved during pair production and other two characteristics of elementary particle is also conserved.

- 1.Write the equations of the proton-proton reaction chain. See to it that the number of protons and neutrons are equal in both sides. 1H + _____ > _____ + c+v _____ + 1H > _____ + y 3He + ______ > ____ + 1H _______ 2. Explain your idea why the reaction is called proton-proton reaction? 3. In the entire process, how many protons were used in 4He?arrow_forwardI understand we need to start with: GPEA + KEA = Wf + GPEC + KEC mghA + 0 = umgL + mghC + 1/2mvc2 from here we can cancel out mass and isolate vc2 to solve. But shouldn't we include the ha in our final solution? Also, may I ask why you canceled gravity out of ugL and ghcv? Thank you!arrow_forwardList all the quarks, leptons and bosons in the order of lowest mass to the highest. Particles with the same mass can be listed next to each other. For quark, what's the pattern between the generations? Is there a pattern between the top row versus the bottom row of quarks? For leptons, what's the pattern between generation? Since we have not determine the mass of the neutrinos yet, which neutrino would you guess is the most massive versus the least massive so far. (this is a pure guess without experimental measurement, so there's no right or wrong answer yet). For the Bosons (including the Higgs), what pattern do you observe among their masses?arrow_forward
