Explanation of Solution

Characteristics of an effective project sponsor:

• • Understands the problem to be solved:
  • ○ It is first and the foremost quality of a project sponsor to understand the problem and should be responsible for a clear, straightforward articulation of the problem that is to be solved.
• • Ensures that the solution fixes the problem:
  • ○ The project sponsor needs to keep three things in consideration in order to ensure the effectiveness of the solution:
    • ■ The solution should concentrate on the root cause, not the symptoms.
    • ■ The sponsor needs to assure that the project does not get unfocused for the team because the team tries to do too much.
    • ■ The project manager should be able to articulate how the organization would benefit by implementing the solution.
• • To know the “good enough” areas:
  • ○ The project sponsor should also have the accountability not only to his organization, but also to the overall organization for which she/he works.
  • ○ Here “good enough” means that the project sponsor has truly taken time to understand the needs of an organization, developed an appropriate solution and also reached the goal with minimum possible resources...
